Cam Newton’s return does not appear to be on the horizon.

The Carolina Panthers quarterback visited foot specialist Dr. Robert Anderson in Green Bay, Wisconsin on Friday for another opinion on the left foot injury that has sidelined him since Week 3.

Newton suffered the injury during the third game of the preseason, but suited up for the first two games of the regular season when he decided to finally address it. He has not practiced or played since, although he did rehab on the side last week and accompanied the team to San Francisco.

“I spent a long time speaking with Cam this week and he’s done everything he possibly can in his rehab process to get his foot to 100 percent,” Carolina general manager Marty Hurney said. “Unfortunately, we haven’t reached that point. The next step is for him to go see Dr. Anderson and gather more information.”

Kyle Allen has performed well in Newton’s place, and the Panthers are 4-1 and in second place in NFC South without him.
