The title – Titanic The Musical – filled me with trepidation. It just sounded far too jolly for something so tragic. Fortunately, my fears were unfounded. At the Theatre Royal, Nottingham, until Saturday, the was sensitively portrayed, poignant, and moving rather than the sensationalist I had feared. It is the much-told story of the Titanic, which sank after striking a iceberg while on its maiden voyage in 1912, with the loss of 1,517 lives. The scene is set early on of the sheer magnifience of the ship. Fair play to the lyricist who managed to get so many mundane Titanic facts into one song. …
