NEW YORK — Shootings and homicides citywide dipped in January, despite rises in other major crimes including assault and robbery, the New York City Police Department said Friday. Shootings in New York decreased last month by about 26%, with 73 incidents, compared to 99 incidents in January 2022. Shootings declined most steeply in the Bronx, Brooklyn and Manhattan, the NYPD said. At the end of 2022, stats showed homicides were down by 11% compared to 2021.
